Malcom was a vibrant faith-driven, husband, father, and business executive whose passion and warmth uplifted everyone around him. For years, he unknowingly lived with undiagnosed Multiple Myeloma.
Research has shown that due to the complexity and lack of awareness surrounding this blood cancer, many physicians often misdiagnose or dismiss patients' early signs and symptoms. In Malcom's case, his early signs were misdiagnosed as prediabetes because of his family history.
Malcom’s story is not unique, but it should never be the norm. Too many lives are impacted by misdiagnoses and dismissal of chronic diseases due to a lack of awareness. These experiences underscore the urgent need for the importance of health education and awareness to facilitate earlier detection. Being informed is not just beneficial, it can save lives.

Dr. David Blake’s message is a wake-up call for African-American men to take control of their health. Too many lives are lost to preventable conditions like heart disease, prostate cancer, and unmanaged mental health. This talk reminds us that staying alive starts with speaking up, getting checked, and supporting each other. Your health isn’t just about you — it’s about your family, your future, and your community.
“Get checked. Not just for you, but for your kids, your wife, your future.”
“I didn’t think I needed a doctor. A quick check-up changed my life.”
“Mental health isn’t weakness. It’s real and you don’t have to fight it alone.”
“Black men don’t need to suffer in silence. We need to support each other.”
